About Virtual Class Training

Virtual Classes offer interactive online training on early childhood education topics including child development, business administration, New York State child day care regulations, professional development, and many more. Classes are instructor-led and feature video, interactive discussion, activities and resources. Participants interact directly with colleagues in the field to share ideas and best practices. Classes and participant materials are accessed through your ECETP account. Classes can be taken on a desktop computer, smart phone, tablet or other device.

Virtual Class training is produced by the Early Childhood Education and Training Program and sponsored by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, funded by the federal Child Care and Development Fund and administered by the Professional Development Program, Rockefeller College, University at Albany. These trainings are available for all child care providers at no cost and are designed to be a resource for information about child care in New York State.

Virtual Class Procedures

Virtual Classes are accessed through your ECETP account's "My Activities" page, under the Virtual Class tab. Here you will find a list of all virtual classes you have registered for. Under the desired class, click "See Materials and Go", to find all participant materials (available 7 days prior to class) as well as the link to join the class. Please Note: the link to join the class will not appear until the actual date of the training, roughly 30 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin.

When the Virtual Class date arrives, go to the "My Activities" page of your ECETP account under the Virtual Class tab and click See Materials and Go, which brings up the Materials and Start Training dialog box with the "Go to Your Training" button to access the class. The class session will open via the WebEx application, which will appear in another browser window. Please be sure to sign in to WebEx using your first and last name for attendance purposes, then click the "Join" button. For more information on using the WebEx platform, please watch this video.

At the end of the class, you will be prompted to complete a Post Test from the "My Activities" page of your ECETP account. This will require you to minimize the WebEx window and go back to your ECETP account's "My Activities" page, where you accessed the link and materials for the training. The Post Test link will appear on this page after the presentation portion of the class has ended. You will have 30 minutes to complete the Post Test once you begin. Please note: you will need to refresh your ECETP account window to see this link. Click Submit once you are finished. If applicable, after successful completion of the Post Test, your Certificate will be available from that screen, or from the "My Activities" page.

Virtual Class Policies

Each Virtual Class concludes with a five-question Post Test to measure your knowledge. Participants must answer four out of five questions correctly to receive 1.5 credit hours. Successful completion of the Post Test will generate a Certificate which may be accessed on through the "My Activities" page of your ECETP account. Because the Post Test is designed to confirm the provider's knowledge of the material covered in that particular training, there will be no re-testing. If you are unable to pass the exam the first time, we recommend registering for another Virtual Classroom to attempt the training again. We have many topics and dates to choose from to gain training credit.
